Fall’s really flying by, isn’t it? One minute we’re enjoying the last days of summer, then we blink and Halloween is right around the corner! With October in full swing, costumes are definitely on our minds. But forget stress—this year we’re taking it easy and keeping it simple! And today we’re sharing some of our favorite pop culture icons you can channel from your closet. Ready to get creative without the chaos of the costume store? Let’s dive in!
1. Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is on every must-watch movie list for a reason. And becoming the iconic Mia Wallace is as easy as slipping into a slim black pant, a black cami, and a white button-up. Put on a black bob wig and a “go away” look, and you’re all set. (Fake nose bleed optional!)
2. Chappell Roan
If you’ve had “HOT TO GO!”, “Pink Pony Club”, or “Good Luck, Babe!” stuck in your head at some point in the last few months, then you understand why we had to include Chappell Roan. We drew inspiration from her “Good Luck, Babe!” single release for this costume—think power red, a powdered face, and a long russet-tressed wig. Do we even need to ask if you know the arm movements for “HOT TO GO!”?
3. Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came out in September, but we’re revisiting the 80s’ original with this Lydia Deetz costume. Grab a black dress, slip on a black cardigan, and lace up a pair of black combat boots to become the would-be bride of the ‘Juice himself.
4. Scary Spice from The Spice Girls
Spice up your life! All the members of The Spice Girls are icons, but we channeled Scary with leopard print, faux fur, and a fierce attitude. And since friendship never ends, get your girlfriends in on it and be the whole act!
5. Ms. Rachel from YouTube
Effortless and a guaranteed hit with the trick-or-treaters, Ms. Rachel couldn’t have spelled it out more simply—just put on a headband and your sweetest smile when you answer the door!
6. Shania Twain
Let’s go, girls! We didn’t have to dare ourselves to include this iconic look from the “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” music video. (It was our prerogative to have a little fun.) Create the look with a black bustier top, a white button up, black leggings and tall black boots—and complete with red lipstick and a jaunty top hat!
7. Morton Salt Girl
The perfect way to season a spooky evening! Become the literal salt-of-the-earth icon with a cheerful yellow dress and shoes, accessorizing with an umbrella.
8. Beyoncé
Queen Bey herself released her first country album this year, and we had to bow down and pay homage. Channel your inner Cowboy Carter with a black mini dress, a black fringe jacket, and boots as high as Beyoncé’s career—and don’t forget your cowboy hat, partner!
9. Log Lady from Twin Peaks
Spooky season is also cozy season! We had to include the iconic spooky-yet-cozy Log Lady from the cult classic series with a green flannel shirt and a cozy neutral or brown cardigan. And the accessories are just as easy: big retro glasses and a literal log. (If the log has a message, well…)
10. Taylor Swift
Between the release of her latest album in the spring and her Eras Tour ending this winter, it’s a year for Taylor Swift. While we love her jaw-dropping tour outfits, we found her football game-attending looks easy to replicate: throw on a Kansas City Chiefs tee, black leggings, tall black boots, a rhinestone bag, a blond wig, and—of course—a bold red lip.
11. Emily Cooper from Emily in Paris
Greenlit for another season, Emily in Paris has charmed viewers with her career, love life, and fashion. We took inspiration from her striking black and white ensembles for this look. The best way to add a little extra something? A bright red beret!
12. Charli XCX
Summer belonged to Charli XCX and her album Brat. We had “360” stuck in our heads for weeks, so we had to create a costume inspired by the hyper-pop icon! Put a lime green shirt, a faux fur jacket, black shorts, black tall boots, and futuristic sunglasses and you’re ready to be bumpin’ that. The finishing touch? An “I don’t care what you think” face.
So this Halloween, skip the last-minute store run and have fun raiding your closet instead! With a little creativity and these easy-to-create ideas, you’ll be ready to celebrate in style without the hassle. Whether you’re heading to a party or just enjoying the spooky vibes, you’ve got everything you need for a fright-filled night. Happy Halloween—and let the festivities begin!
