Spring Soiree Style: Formal Outfit Ideas for Every Occasion

Spring is here, and with it a wide variety of special occasions to be excited about! Whether you’re up to your eyeballs in wedding invitations or only have a couple of events on the calendar, you need to make sure you have the right outfit ready to go. Need inspiration? Here are a few spring outfit ideas that you can use to create dozens of different looks for any of this season’s celebrations.

How Do I Know if an Event Is Formal?

Your first clue to whether you need a casual or formal spring outfit for the event can be found in the invitation. Some hosts will indicate right on the invite how they expect guests to dress, but if that’s not the case you can pull hints from the venue, time of day, and even the font used. If there isn’t an invitation, you can still make a guess based on the venue, or, if you’re really stumped, just ask the host if there is a dress code. Here are a few different events that you might find yourself invited to this spring, as well as a couple formal spring outfit ideas that you can wear to each.

Easter Get-Together

Easter is a great opportunity to get together with friends and family and celebrate the beginning of spring! These gatherings aren’t always formal, so we recommend taking your cue from your host. If the celebration includes going to an Easter church service together, try to dress more formally. Our dress sets are a great choice for occasions like these, instantly giving you a unique special occasion look that you can customize by adding or removing the included jacket. If dresses aren’t your style, we also have pant suit sets that are just as stylish but include a little extra coverage for your legs.

In the case of a more casual Easter brunch or egg hunt, dresses are still a great choice! Try pairing a fun and flowy sundress with a pair of wedge sandals. Worried you’ll get chilly? Grab a jean jacket on your way out the door.  It’s always a good idea to have an extra layer on hand in spring, just in case!

Baby Shower

Spring is all about new beginnings, and often that includes new babies! For a baby shower, you’re going to want an outfit that is dressy while still being comfortable and easy to move in. You never know how wild the baby shower games are going to get! To get the best of both worlds, match wide-leg pants in a light, flowy fabric with a blouse and flat sandals or loafers. For a more tailored look, trade the wide-leg pants for a more structured pair of slacks or khakis. Depending on the weather, you can wear a long cardigan overtop to defend against those cold winds left over from winter while also adding another layer of dimension.

Wedding

This one could be a blog post all its own, but we’ll try to keep it brief. With so many different venues and kinds of weddings out there, it’s impossible to give you just one outfit to suit them all. You really can’t go wrong with a midi-length cocktail dress accessorized with your favorite pieces of jewelry. You can tie into that glam with metallic or bedazzled pumps, and a stylish clutch bag. For something that’s a little different but every bit as elegant, try a jumpsuit instead of a dress. Jumpsuits are great because, just like with most dresses, they’re a one-and-done that need only a few accessories added to become a complete outfit. Plus, many of them have pockets!

Graduation Party

Though most graduation parties happen after the school year has ended, some parents like to get ahead of the rush and schedule their student’s celebration toward the end of spring. These tend to be less formal than the other events we’ve mentioned in this post, but we’d still recommend wearing something a bit dressier than your usual weekend attire. For guys, that might be a polo shirt or button-down with khaki shorts and loafers. For the ladies, this is a great chance to break out your white pants or capris and pair them with a blouse or tunic featuring a floral design. Add sparkly sandals and some jewelry and you’ve got an outfit that’s designed to dazzle. Grad parties are also great events for your favorite midi and maxi skirts. Match them with a dressy tank top or off-the-shoulder blouse for a look that’s guaranteed to bring spring vibes.

Now, these are just a few of the many different celebrations you might find yourself at this season, but these spring outfit ideas can easily be remixed and restyled for many more! Have fun with your favorite Masseys pieces and don’t be afraid to try new things. When you feel good about what you’re wearing, you’ll look good too!
